Outfits from September and October 2020.
With the release of an official English client for a near decade old online game, Sega had an ambitious drive to catch the global servers up to Japan within one year.
After all, the at the time upcoming new game, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, would use the same client. This would get everyone across the world on the same page moving forwards.
All of which is to say: I was chugging a lot of content to keep the deluge under control.
So when the Sakura Wars collaboration rolled in, I must admit, I did not make quite as many screenshots to look back on as I should have.
I even picked up a full set of Imperial Combat Revue uniforms, in every character color available. But, I have yet to use them for anything. If we had a set of mannequins or something for our Personal Quarters, making a line of them in a walk-in closet type setup would have been kind of neat.
But at the very least: Sakura Shinguji and Sakura Amamiya are the classic and new generation protagonists. And I was not going to let the special lobby decorations go to waste without posing in their more ornate attire.
In retrospect, as you might notice, all of my screenshots here were in the Shopping Plaza. One of the busiest locations in the game. But none of these screenshots have any other people in the scene. I made an intentional choice to do this at the time. I was going to less populated lobbies so I would have more freedom to flop around more without expectations.
It would be pretty obvious a player wearing Sakura Wars protagonist attire in front of the main robots is trying to do something.
But many of my screenshots are not planned too well in advance. I cycle through various emotes, change lighting conditions, reposition myself, and so on. I sort through everything after the fact and sift out the better ones.
But, there is a part of me which thinks I should have set up a static pose for a while and see what other random players might do around me.
Maybe one day, Sakura Wars will return for an encore.
